Mattito's Tex-Mex | Our Story

Everyone has a Mattito's Story...

Since 1992, Mattito’s has been woven into the fabric of Dallas. For some, it’s where they celebrated a birthday, a graduation, or a rehearsal dinner. For others, it’s Sunday Brunch with family, Happy Hour with friends, the annual Cinco de Mayo party, or simply their favorite neighborhood restaurant. Over the years, we’ve watched guests become regulars, regulars become family, and one generation introduce the next to the traditions they love. More than 34 years later, we’re grateful that so many people can say, “I have a Mattito’s story.” What's Your Mattito's Story?
1992 - A Legend is Born

1992 - A Legend is Born

At just 29 years old, Jeffrey Frankel had already built and sold a restaurant company with more than 30 locations. Together with legendary Dallas restaurateur Matt Martinez and partner Kurt Gustafson, he opened the first Mattito’s in Dallas’s Oak Lawn neighborhood. Their vision was simple: serve exceptional Tex-Mex inspired by treasured family recipes, made with the freshest ingredients, paired with handcrafted margaritas, and delivered with genuine hospitality. A Dallas tradition was born.

2000 - The Infamous House on Routh Street

Mattito’s found its home in the iconic house on Routh Street, becoming one of Dallas’s favorite gathering places. In 1998, Jim Lannom joined the Mattito’s family, and in 2005 he became a partner. Together, Jeffrey and Jim helped build Mattito’s into one of the city’s most recognized Tex-Mex restaurants. From legendary Cinco de Mayo celebrations and award-winning Sunday Brunch to rehearsal dinners, birthdays, and family traditions, the house on Routh became more than a restaurant—it became part of Dallas history.

The opening of Mattito’s on Forest Lane marked the beginning of a new chapter. While the address changed, everything guests loved remained the same—award-winning Tex-Mex, handcrafted margaritas, warm hospitality, and a place where every guest is treated like family.
